Final Standings! 1:10:18.00

So I just got ahold of our final standings in the 2006 Texas State Time Trial Championships. We posted a time of 1 hour ten minutes and 18 seconds. This was good enough to place us 40th out of the 50 riders who competed in our division. Click here for the full listings. Scroll down to the Men's Cat 5 group. We're rider number 282.

As to the event, the times were significantly faster than last year (perhaps there was more wind). And to be honest, the riders I saw were significantly more hardcore than I anticipated. I didn't see everyone but out of the bikes I did see there were only a handful under $2000. I saw lots of skinsuits, time-trial helmets, disc wheels, and guys warming up on trainers.

Surprisingly no one came over to comment on our bike even though we had some team artwork painted on Ted's truck. There was one couple whom we knew who said they'd seen the article and thought it was cool.

Keep checking the website for some more pictures and hopefully at least one more video. And thanks again for all your support. Happy riding and remember - there's room for all of us on the road.

Jordan McNutt I'm sorry

Jordan,

I'm sorry that I didn't email you about travelling with the team. I lost your address. I hope you cheered for us nonetheless. Please forgive me.

Sincerely,

alan.

1:10:00

I didn't get an exact time but it was close to 1 hour and ten minutes. If this year's race was like last year's that would put us just below the median time. They won't post the results for a bit but we'll keep checking back. No mechanicals, just a hot day of racing. We'll hit the BVC ride one more time since acquiring our disc wheel in order to evaluate its benefit. We're not done just yet!

27:45 Same old, Same old...

Well sorry we didn't post last week but I was out of town on vacation. Ted said the wind was crazy and he had the best time of a small field by posting an 30 minute+ time. This week he hit our previous record of 27:45. Hopefully he didn't give up too much and has a little left for tomorrow. Look for Ted to butcher the field like his look-a-like Floyd Landis is gonna do in his own time-trial tomorrow in the Tour de France.

27:45

So Ted's back in the saddle (literally) and he set a new Roadmeister record of 27 minutes 45 seconds. I'm proud to report there were no mechanical problems! There were a lot of good rides this week and we continue to be excited. The TV spot went well enough. There was some good footage taken and most of the details came out just fine. Keep marking your calendars for the state meet. Just 14 days to go!

Televis-i-on

So we're supposed to be interviewed for the local news this Saturday. My mom evidently knows someone at the sister station in Waco and sent them the magazine article. We'll see how it goes. Check back for an update.

30:36 and I lived to tell about it...barely!

So I, the mechanic, rode the bike this week. Something about it being "my turn". Whose idea was that again? Well, anyway, I put out a monster effort and rode a 30:36, not bad for a first-timer. I actually came in fourth out of the group. But after finishing I was so wiped that I turned around in the middle of the road. I thought I was fine but evidently I had everyone worried. Then as I drove off I started heading down the wrong side of the divided highway. I saw the access road on my left and there was a hill on my right so I couldn't see the other road and well... I heard a honking and then a minute later I looked up and saw someone coming the other way. They were travelling pretty slow but the whole thing really was a close call. No more of this riding stuff for me thank you very much. I'll stick to wrenching. But keep checking back for results from our pilot, Ted "The Craver" Craver. Until next time...

28:02

So we took over a minute off our time again! We still had some mechanical issues but this time it had more to do with Ted not riding the bike this week and me not touching it with a wrench until five minutes before the start. Needless to say, we could've done better in the prep category. But all in all Ted looked a ton better than last week. Maybe he's getting more sleep. Anyway, we beat a number of folks, coming in fourth overall out of like 14 people. We beat young guys and old guys, members of the cycling team, guys on full-carbon Orbeas, guys on carboluminum Treks, etc., etc. We had a good time. Check the podcast for an update that's coming soon. Oh and next week I'll be taming the beast, er, riding the Roadmesiter I mean. Ted will be busy finishing his ed-u-ma-ca-tion. So expect a new course record (slowest ride ever!) Until next time...
